Dick Clark hosted American Bandstand from 1956 to its final season in 1989. Three thousand episodes were produced during its run beginning in 1952. American Bandstand was a dance program featuring teenagers dancing to records playing and often featured a musical guest lip-syncing to their latest hit. Tony Horn was the original host but was fired in 1956 after a drunk driving arrest and was ultimately replaced by Dick Clark. Clark host a 50th Anniversary edition of the show in 2002. Several famous artists made their first American TV appearances on the show, such as Prince, Jackson 5, Sonny and Cher, and Aerosmith.
