Famed sculptor Pietro Torrigiano is best known for what?

YOU ANSWERED INCORRECTLY!

Answer: Violent Temperament

About The Answer:

While famed sculptor Pietro Torrigiano helped introduce Italian Renaissance art to England, unfortunately, he is best known for his violent temperament. While studying as youths, he and Michelangelo got into an altercation which resulted in Torrigiano striking and breaking Michelangelo’s nose, causing a lifelong disfigurement. The incident caused Torrigiano to flee Florance. He became a soldier and was later hired by royalty in England to sculpt. His artistic career continued in Spain, but his violent tendencies followed. Torrigiano ran afoul of the Spanish Inquisition, either deliberately vandalizing a sculpture for he had not been reimbursed for his work or, in a fit of rage after a carving mistake, he defaced his work. Clerics determined the act to be heresy, and he was thrown into a Spanish prison and died in 1528 at the age of 55.

Nice try!
