From the list below, which insect lives the longest?

YOU ANSWERED INCORRECTLY!

Answer: Splendour beetle

About The Answer:

Splendour beetles (Arilus biguttatus) are one of the longest living insects. After the female beetle lays its eggs on a host tree, the larva hatch and burrow into the wood, where they often emerge the following spring as adults. However, under certain circumstances, the larva can hang out in the trees for 25 or 30 years. This is known as delayed emergence. In one case, after the primary infestation, an adult materialized 51 years later. The woodpecker is a natural enemy, digging the grubs from the wood to eat. The typical lifetime for a common fruit fly is about a month, while ants are around three weeks, and a mayfly only lives for 24 hours.
