Most insects, including bees, have two sets of wings (four wings), attached to its thorax, the middle section of the insect. The fore wings (front) are much larger than the hind (back) wings. While there are exceptions to the rule, bees generally have two sets. Bees belong to the order of Hymenoptera. House flys and mosquitos belong in the order of Diptera, which only have 1 set of wings. The wings of bees hook together during flight, so they work together. When at rest, the bee’s wings unhook from each other so they can fold back. Bees have a very rapid wing beat, flapping its wings over 200 times per second!
