Asia is currently Earth’s largest continent. At one time, Pangea, sometimes spelled Pangaea, was Earth’s supercontinent, containing most of the landmass on Earth. It broke apart approximately 175 million years ago, eventually forming into the continents we know today. Asia, the largest continent, begins at the eastern Mediterranean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Sixty percent of the world’s population lives in Asia, including India and China, along with forty-six additional countries. Asia contains 17.2 million square miles and has a population of 4.6 billion people. Africa is the second-largest continent, followed by North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
