Popeye the Sailor’s favorite food is spinach. Popeye is a beloved cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar and made his debut in the comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. Originally, Popeye got luck by rubbing the head of the Whiffle Hen, but by 1932 he received tremendous strength from eating a can of spinach. Other characters in the Popeye universe include Olive, Bluto, and Swee’Pea.

When a contestant from Family Feud Canada was questioned about Popeye’s favorite food, she answered “chicken.” Though she was wrong about the answer, Popeye’s, the famous restaurant chain, took offense and claimed she answered correctly. They provided her with $10,000 of free Popeye’s food.
