Topaz is the traditional gemstone for November. It is a popular gem as it can come in various colors: yellow, brown, honey, green, blue, red, pink, and sometimes clear. It is most often found in amber gold, yellow, or a blushing pink-orange; but the highly prized gems are pale pink or a sherry red. The Imperial or Precious Topaz is the rarest and most valuable available and comes from the Ouro Preto mines of Brazil. A Precious Topaz is a magnificent orange with pink undertones. The ancient Egyptians and Romans associated the topaz with the sun god, and its abilities to protect and heal were highly favored.
