The Colorado Springs professional soccer team is known as the Switchbacks. They are a member of the USL Championship men’s soccer league, formed in 2011. The Switchbacks joined the league in 2015 and play at Weidner Field, a stadium that just opened last month specifically for soccer. Weidner Field can hold 8,000 spectators for soccer games and is located in downtown Colorado Springs. The USL Championship league is a member of the United States Soccer Federation and is one step under Major League Soccer, the top tier. The Switchbacks just started league play for 2021, dropping their first game on May 1. They will play a 32 game schedule through October.
