Construction was completed in 2010, and has retained its title in the last decade. The building contains 57 elevators and 8 escalators. The building was intended to be the centerpiece of Downtown Dubai, a mixed-use development project, and has been highly successful.

The Shanghai Tower (Shanghai, China) is the second tallest building, with Pin An Finance Center (Shenzhen, Chinn) coming in at the number four spot. The third tallest is the Makkah Royal Clock Tower (Mecca, Saudi Arabia). The Empire State Building was the world’s tallest building from its completion in 1931 to 1970. It is now the 46th tallest in the world and the 6th tallest in New York City.
