The span of a suspension bridge is the distance between the bridge’s towers. The next longest suspension bridge, which held the title of longest from 1998 to 2022, is the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan. The previous record was beaten by about 105 feet. Perhaps the most famous suspension bridge is the Golden Gate Bridge, which is currently the 19th longest globally, with a span of 1,280 meters. Suspension bridges can cover the longest spans but are some of the most expensive to build.
