A Jeepney is a taxi or bus found in the Philippines. Before World War II, shared taxis were known as auto calesas, and they evolved into imported cars with attached carriages and became a popular form of transportation. Many were destroyed during World War II, and the numerous military Jeeps left behind from the war were salvaged and converted into the modern-day Jeepney. Many Jeepneys are flamboyantly decorated with elaborate colors and design schemes. Today’s modern Jeepneys are fuel-efficient, electric, or electric hybrids, offering Panta cards – reloadable debit cards allowing ease of use and payment.
