Which U.S. state is the leader in gold production?

YOU ANSWERED INCORRECTLY!

Answer: Nevada

About The Answer:

Nevada is the United States leader in gold production. In 2018, the state produced over five and a half million troy ounces of gold, which is 78% of U.S. gold and five percent of the world’s total output. Most of the gold comes from massive open-pit mining. Nevada’s top producing gold mine is Goldstrike, followed by Cortez and Carlin Gold Mines. All three of these mines are located in north-central Nevada. The second leading state is Alaska, with most of the production surrounding the cities of Juneau, Nome, and Fairbanks. Colorado is third on the list, with only the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company still in operation. The fourth and fifth on the list are California and Arizona.
