Painting was a frequent and life-long hobby of Winston Churchill once introduced to the art. He picked up the hobby in 1915 when he was introduced to watercolors by his sister-in-law, Gwendoline, known as Goonie. He was instantly enthralled with painting, started out in watercolors, and transitioned into oil painting. During the first exhibit of his paintings, he used the pseudonym Charles Morin. Six of his paintings sold. Churchill painted in the impressionistic style, and his family home in Kent was the source of much inspiration. He also painted while traveling while on vacation. In 2017, his final painting, “The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell,” sold for $473,000. Churchill created hundreds of paintings during his lifetime.
